The Coco Grower’s Guide (Run-to-Waste Feeding Made Simple)

🌿 THE COCO GROWER’S GUIDE

Run-to-Waste Feeding Made Simple

Consistent. Controlled. High Performance.

Coco coir is one of the most powerful growing mediums available — when used correctly.

This guide explains the fundamentals so you can grow faster, healthier, and with fewer problems.

🧠 WHY COCO IS DIFFERENT

Coco is:

✔ Soilless

✔ Highly oxygenated

✔ Excellent at holding water

✔ Excellent at holding nutrients

Unlike soil, coco contains no nutrition of its own.

That means:

Every irrigation is a feed.

You are not watering in coco — you are feeding.

💧 THE GOLDEN RULE

Always feed nutrients.

Always water to runoff.

Each irrigation should produce 10–20% runoff from the bottom of the pot.

Why?

• Prevents salt buildup

• Keeps root zone EC stable

• Refreshes nutrients

• Maintains oxygen in the media

Never give plain water (unless correcting a problem).

⏱ HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU FEED?

As plants grow, feed frequency increases.

🌱 Seedlings

• 1 feed per day

• EC 0.8–1.2

• Light runoff

🌿 Vegetative Growth

• 2–4 feeds per day

• EC 1.4–1.8

• 10–20% runoff

🌸 Early Flower

• 3–5 feeds per day

• EC 1.8–2.0

🌺 Mid–Late Flower

• 4–6 feeds per day

• EC 1.8–2.2

Small, frequent feeds are better than large, infrequent feeds.

📊 UNDERSTANDING EC

EC measures nutrient strength.

You should monitor:

Input EC (what you feed)

Runoff EC (what drains out)

If runoff EC is:

✔ Slightly higher than input → Normal

⚠ Much higher than input → Salt buildup

⚠ Lower than input → Overwatering

Monitoring runoff prevents problems before they start.

🌡 IDEAL pH RANGE

Target pH: 5.8 – 6.2

Why this matters:

• Too high → Nutrient lockout

• Too low → Toxicity

Consistency is more important than perfection.

💦 HOW WET SHOULD COCO BE?

Coco should feel like a wrung-out sponge.

Never:

✘ Let it dry completely

✘ Allow it to stay waterlogged

Healthy coco is always moist and oxygenated.

🧪 WHY CALCIUM & MAGNESIUM MATTER

Coco naturally binds calcium and magnesium.

Always use:

✔ A quality coco nutrient

✔ Or supplement with CalMag

This prevents:

• Yellowing

• Weak stems

• Slow growth

❌ COMMON COCO MISTAKES

• Feeding plain water

• Feeding once per day in heavy flower

• Letting coco dry out

• Ignoring runoff EC

• Running EC too high

Coco rewards consistency.

🏆 THE COCO SUCCESS FORMULA

✔ Feed every irrigation

✔ Always achieve runoff

✔ Increase frequency as plants grow

✔ Maintain pH 5.8–6.2

✔ Monitor runoff EC

✔ Keep coco consistently moist

When managed correctly, coco delivers:

• Fast growth

• Strong root systems

• Heavy yields

• High-quality flowers
